The story behind the name - Black Bear Farm

It's actually a pretty crazy story.  We bought our farm (well, I guess technically it wasn't a farm back then, but anyway...) while we were living in Colorado for a work assignment. The day before we moved out of our house to move back to Texas, started as any other. normal day. Corry got up early to walk our dogs, and when he returned, he walked by my car (in our driveway) and noticed that the interior lights were on. He put the dogs inside, and then walked back out to the car to turn off the lights. He tried to pull on the handle but the door was stuck, and when he looked up A BEAR growled at him, from inside the car!

A black bear bit the handle and pulled the car door open with his teeth, then he hopped up inside to enjoy afeast of Goldfish, peanut butter crackers and a leftover French fry or two! The door shut behind him and he got locked inside. Not sure how long he was in there - but it was long enough for him to destroy any and everything inside it!

Long story short - we called animal control and a wildlife expert came to our house. She was a tiny lady with a boatload of confidence. She got the bear out of the car for us, but not before he totaled it!

That very same day, we knew our farm should be named after the bear that sent us back to Texas with one heck of a Colorado "good-bye".
