They make it all worthwhile

All animals at Black Bear Farm & Apiary play a special role in making the farm function as a whole. Read below to learn more about our animals and why they have a home on our farm.

The Cows - Specka & Luna (Luna Passed in 2017)

Specka is an A2/A2 Jersey cow and we've grown to love and rely on her for many of the things we make here at Black Bear Farm. Other than providing our family with unbeatable fresh milk to drink, we use her milk to make butter, and we use both that and her milk in our homemade cinnamon rolls (so good, y'all).

We also use her milk in our homemade Milk Soap! Its beautiful and moisturizing, and makes a great gift!

The Chickens

Black Bear Farm started out with about 20 birds, but that "chicken math" is a funny thing. Seems like we can never have too many! We now have about 300 chickens on our farm - all sorts of breeds that give us beautiful brown, white and blue eggs. In addition to our egg layers, we started raising broiler chickens (meat birds) in 2018.  We love being able to provide ethically grown, pasture raised chicken.

The Bees

The Bees-BBF currelty has about 15 hives of honeybees.  Other than being the MOST fascinating animals on the planet, these hard working bees provide us with honey, pollen, beeswax, honeycomb and do an amazing job of pollinating our crops!

Bonnie and Clyde

Bonnie and Clyde joined the farm in 2016 to help add some personality to the place!  So far Bonnie has layed two clutches of eggs since shes been here, but so far no baby peafowl have hatched.  Hopefully 2019 is out year!

The Turkeys

Seasonally BBF will have turkeys on the ground for Thanksgiving and Christmas.  If you're looking for an ethically grown, pasture raised turkey for your holiday meal email us TODAY.  We will sell out.

The Pigs

We are dipping our toes into pigs.  So far we have 2-4 pigs on our farm at one time.  Two of them are fat, spoiled and staying on the farm for life - Pork Chop and Bellyflop.  We love them so!
